Irvine and Dunker Cash big at Toby K’s Hideaway 1K Shootout

Marshalltown, Iowa (July 3, 2012) – After getting rained out on Friday Night it was back to business at the Marshalltown Speedway with the annual Toby K’s Hideaway 1K Shootout. Drivers were from Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Texas and New Mexico signed in to do battle at the speedway.

Dallas Chandler would start on the pole and take the early lead in the IMCA Sport Compacts feature but Nathan Chandler would chase him down and take the lead away on lap 5. Nathan Chandler would go on and take the win with Dallas Chandler finishing 2nd. Bill Whalen Jr. was 3rd, Merv Chandler was 4th and David Moorman was 5th.

O’Reilly Auto Parts Mod Lites feature would see Jason Whitehead lead the first lap. On lap 2 though Whitehead would slip up a bit and allow Jason Wood gets by but that wouldn’t last long as Randy Bryan would get by for the lead. A few laps later, Josh May would come up after experience some trouble earlier in the night to take the lead. Josh May would go on to take the win with Mike Kennedy, Randy Bryan, Jason Whitehead and Dusty Masolini rounded out the top 5.

The Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA SportMods feature it would be Cory Rose leading the first lap and just shortly after the first race caution came out. On the restart, Rose would be passed by Tony Dunker. Dunker would lose the lead to Scott Davis on lap 7. Davis would continue to lead even through the final race caution on lap 13 but Dunker wouldn’t give up as he would be able to make the move on the outside and beat Scott Davis to the line by a bumper. Sam Wieben was 3rd, Racer Hulin was 4th and Carter Vandenberg was 5th.

In Toby K’s Hideaway IMCA Hobby Stocks feature it was Tyler Pickett leading the first lap meanwhile Scott Pippert was working his way to the front. Pippert would take the lead away from Pickett on lap 5, a lead Pippert would hold on too until the final lap when Brandon Pruitt would make the pass and take the win. Finishing behind Pruitt and Pippert was Pickett, Bryce Udelhoven and Garrett Eilander.

The final feature of the night was World Products IMCA Stock Cars Shootout it was Sean Johnson taking lead and looking to be pulling away despite a couple of cautions in the early going. Johnson would continue to lead until lap 28 when Donavon Smith would make the move for the lead. Brian Irvine would follow and then would set his sites on taking the lead from Donavon Smith. Irvine would make the last lap pass on Smith to take the win over Smith. Johnson, Trent Murphy and Abe Huls would round out the top 5.

This Friday Night will be KMJ Performance and Budweiser Night at Speedway. Hot Laps at 6:45 pm and racing at 7:30 pm.
