Luinenburg Wins Wild Stock Car Showdown at Marshalltown Frostbuster

By Ben Deatherage

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (Apr. 4, 2025) — Justin Luinenburg held off a pair of heavyweights in a dramatic finish to win the 25-lap Sunoco IMCA Stock Car feature at Marshalltown Speedway in the opening round of the 2025 Frostbuster series. The Reading, Minnesota, driver, a three-time Murray County Speedway track champion and 2015 Sunoco IMCA Hobby Stock National titleholder, fought off Maguire DeJong early and then survived a three-wide duel in the final corner.

Three-time Marshalltown Stock Car titlist Steve Meyer gave chase early while Kelly Shryock worked into third in the Mike Hauan-owned Lake Mills Motorsports No. 3. Shryock, last year’s Super Nationals Stock Car winner, eventually battled with Meyer for second before two-time Super Nationals champ Dallon Murty joined the fray.

Murty, the 2020 Marshalltown Stock Car king, powered around the outside to take second on lap 17 and made multiple attempts to pass Luinenburg in the closing laps. Shryock stayed committed to the bottom and nearly stole the win coming off the final corner.

The three crossed the line nearly three-wide, with Luinenburg emerging victorious for his first EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region win of the year. Shryock finished second, and the 2021 Frostbuster champ, Murty, came home third.

Morris Masters Modifieds for Fourth Win of 2025

A pair of California natives set the tone early in the 30-lap Friesen Performance IMCA Modified main. Trevor Fitz, the 2019 California State champion now residing in Marshalltown, led early before Troy Morris III of Bakersfield made his move.

Morris, a former Arizona IMCA Tour and Wild West Speedweek champion, got around Fitz on lap five and never looked back. Ethan Braaksma, the two-time reigning Frostbuster champion, secured second aboard the Rage Chassis No. 12J house car for car owner Justin O’Brien.

Operating flawlessly on the high side, Morris sliced through traffic and cruised to his fourth win of the season and first in Razor Chassis North Central Region competition. Jake McBirnie, the two-time defending Boone Speedway titleholder and 2024 Showdown at MoTown winner, passed Fitz for third with 12 laps to go.

Deschamp Delivers in Wild SportMod Main Event

Gabe Deschamp prevailed in a chaotic Karl Chevrolet IMCA Northern SportMod 20-lapper. The defending Tougher Than Dirt Tour champion from Westhope, North Dakota, stalked and passed Nebraska’s Tyler Nerud with three laps remaining, then mastered a final restart to secure his first win of the season in the division.

Dustin Marquardt led early before 2023 Harris Clash winner Cam Reimers took over on lap two. A caution three laps in reshuffled the deck, and on the restart, 2023 CJ Speedway champion Dylan Van Wyk slid past Reimers for the lead in turn four.

The two leaders tangled the next lap forcing both to retire, handing the top spot to Nerud, the defending Beatrice Speedway champ. Deschamp chased him down over the next 10 laps and finally executed a turn-four slide job on lap 17 to take the lead. A late caution bunched the field but the reigning Estevan Motor Speedway and Thunder Mountain Speedway track title earner, was perfect on the restart. Nerud finished second and Wisconsin’s Dustin White, the 2025 IMCA.TV Winter Nationals winner, rounded out the podium.

Richards Outduels Van Der Wilt in Hobby Stock Thriller

Beatrice, Nebraska’s Dillon Richards earned his 10th win of the year and second B&B Racing Chassis Northern Region victory with a high-side charge in the 20-lap Sunoco IMCA Hobby Stock feature.

2023 track champion Corey Van Der Wilt and 2021 Frostbuster title winner Solomon Bennett fought for the early lead before Richards, the 2022 National champion and reigning IMCA.TV Winter Nationals winner, roared into the picture. A lap four caution bunched the field, and on the restart, Richards used momentum up top to nose ahead on lap five.

Van Der Wilt and Richards raced side-by-side for several laps with Richards barely holding the lead each time they crossed the stripe. Richards finally secured the top spot and pulled ahead to seal the deal. Bradly Graham, the defending Independence Motor Speedway titleholder and 2024 Showdown at MoTown winner, took third.

Aldape Times It Perfectly in Sport Compact Battle

Gilbert Aldape executed a last-lap pass to win the 16-lap Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact feature. The Sioux City driver, who started 11th, earned his second victory of the season after a thrilling back-and-forth with Mitch Bielenberg.

Defending Iowa State champion Spencer Roggentien and Bielenberg fought early before Bielenberg, the 2021 Super Nationals champ, took the lead on lap four. Aldape charged into second after a caution and began stalking Bielenberg with seven to go.

The two raced side-by-side for several laps with neither giving an inch until Aldape threw a bold move in turn four on the final lap to win by inches. Michael Gardner, last year’s Showdown at MoTown winner, finished third.

The IMCA Modified and Stock Car features were qualifying events for the Fast Shafts All-Star Modified Invitational and the B&B Racing Chassis All-Star Stock Car Invitational, respectively. Both invitationals will be held during the 2025 Speedway Motors IMCA Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. Troy Morris III and Justin Luinenburg each earned eligibility to qualify for their respective events.
