It was the 62nd annual Weekly Points Opener at Karl Auto Group Marshalltown Speedway along with the UAW Local 893 Cliff Chambers Memorial night. After multiple weeks of Mother Nature not allowing racing enthusiasts to enjoy some high-impact action racing on the high banks, 120 cars checked in across six classes.
The IMCA Mod Lites, presented by Drury Automotive, were the first feature of the night and it was 15 laps. Colby Oberembt and Charlie Brown lead the field to the green with Brown leading the first lap. Brown led the first 7 laps, but a caution would fly. Brown and Zehm would lead the field to the green with 9 laps to go. Zhem would take the lead with 7 laps to go, and Brown and Zhem would put on a show throwing sliders before Zhem passed Brown for the lead. Zhem would hold off Brown to secure the win. Colby Oberembt, Dan Keltber, and Austin Gray rounded out the top five.
Next up was the 16-lap IMCA Northern SportMods feature presented by Rugged Radios. Dylan VanWyk and Colton Livezey led the field to the green flag. VanWyk would lead the first lap; Brayton Carter was up to third in one lap following starting eighth, and then just before a caution would fly due to a spun-out car in turns one and two, Carter was up to second. VanWyk was slicing and dicing his way through lap traffic and had a half a straightaway lead over the 01 of Carter. VanWyk thought he had this one in the bag, but coming out of turns three and four, the caution would wave. This would stack the field and erase the sizable lead over Carter. VanWyk would hold off Carter to secure the Sport Mod feature win. Colton Livezey, Micheal Johnson, and Brayden Shepherd would round out the top five.
Next to the track came the 15-lap feature for the IMCA Sport Compacts presented by Hy-Vee. Last year's track champion, Christian Grady, and Curtis Masterson led the field to the green flag, and Grady would lead lap one. Four laps in, leader Christian Grady had a nasty and violent roll, which put the field under a red flag. Grady was okay. Katelynn Watts may have crossed the line first, but Watts was docked the win, and ultimately Spencer Roggentien, who finished behind Watts, ultimately was awarded the win. Curtis Marterson, Blake Fineran, and Mark Smith rounded out the top five.
Next up was the 20-lap IMCA Stock Car feature Knight Sanitation. Thor Anderson and Maguire DeJong led the field to the green. DeJong led the first lap. Battles emerged throughout the 20-car field, and race fans ran a nice green flag run for 12 laps before a caution came out with eight to go. Following a restart, again race fans saw multiple awesome battles throughout the course of the field, but DeJong would hold off Steve Meyer to secure the win and lead all 20 laps. Thor Anderson, Michael Jaennette, and Jimmy Gustin rounded out the top five.
Up next was the 16-lap IMCA Hobby Stock feature presented by Cappys Big 8 Tyre Center. Kolby Sabin and Kevin Sather led the field to the green. Sabin led the first lap; following that, we saw some three-wide racing between Kevin Sather, Eric Stanton, and Braden Gifford. Stanton and the 7B took the lead at the halfway point and worked their way through some heavy lap traffic, but Sather wouldn’t go away and gave Stanton some fight. In the middle of the pack with roughly three laps to go, race fans saw a four-car battle for 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th between Braden Gifford, Eric Knutson, Briar Kriegel, and
Corey VanDerwilt. Stanton would hold off Sather to secure the win and started 5th. Kolby Sabin, Eric Knutson, and Briar Kriegel rounded out the top five.
It was time for a nightcap. The final feature of the 62nd annual Weekly Points Opener and UAW Local 893 Cliff Chambers Memorial night was the 20-lap IMCA Modifieds presented by Tire Demon by Love Tap. Zane Devilbiss and Ryan Slott led the field to the green; Devilbiss would lead the first lap. Todd Shute and Trevor Fitz saw their feature end early in a 3-car pileup, which
ended Fitz's and Shute’s night early. Logan Anderson and Zane Devilibiss battled it out back and forth, but Anderson would win the nightcap, and Devilbiss would finish second. Joel Rust, Kollin Hibdon, and Izac Mallicoat rounded out the top five.
